Woman killed and nine others injured in road accidents

Dubai: At least one person was killed and nine others sustained injuries in separate road accidents in the last two days, police said.

A woman was killed and four others sustained injuries in a horrific collision between four cars that took place in Al Qusais Industrial area 2 in front of Dubai Abattoir yesterday morning.

Police said the accident took place at 10am when an Arab woman entered the road without making sure it was clear. She collided with a car on the road. Two other cars collided with her car.

As a result, the woman was killed on the spot, while four others sustained moderate to serious injuries and were taken to the hospital.

The accident caused long tailbacks on the roads leading to the abattoir and around the area, as police had cordoned off the area to clear the accident site.

A motorist heading to Damascus road adjacent to the abattoir, said he got stuck in the accident's traffic for around one hour.

"The accident scene was horrible," he said.

"Many police patrols and ambulances were at the site and some policemen were diverting traffic movement, which had come to a standstill," he said.

On Tuesday, five people sustained moderate injuries when a car entered Crushers Roundabout and hit another car.

Police said the driver of the car who caused the accident was speeding.
