Dubai: A truck which caught fire on Sunday afternoon caused huge tailbacks on Emirates Road on the way to Abu Dhabi, just after Al Qudra Bridge.
Police said the truck was destroyed in the fire which broke out at around 2.30pm.
Motorists are being advised to use alternative routes as the road is temporarily closed.
Nobody was injured.
Police warned motorists that they need to check their vehicles are roadworthy.
“The weather is becoming very hot and such incidents may happen,” they said.
Police said the road closure was temporary until the truck could be cleared from the road.
“Motorists should take alternative roads because it could take hours to remove the truck and clear the road,” police said.
Police said it seems as if the truck’s engine caught fire or it was possible it was carrying flammable materials.
“We are investigating the reason behind the incident,” police said.
