Ras Al Khaimah: Three people were killed and one critically injured in a head-on collision between two vehicles early Wednesday morning in Ras Al Khaimah, police said. Two of the dead had just arrived in the UAE a few days before the tragic accident.

The accident happened around 1.30am, about 15 kilometres away from Ras Al Khaimah city, between Al Rams and Khor Khwair Industrial Area.

Major Marwan Abdullah, head of the media department at Ras Al Khaimah Police, told Gulf News that the accident was caused by a 34-year-old Emirati driver, who was driving against the direction of the traffic. “His car crashed into the vehicle ofthe victims,” Major Abdullah said.

The Emirati driver sustained serious injuries and is now at the Intensive Care Unit at Saqr Hospital.

The deceased, all Indians, have been identified as Abdul Basheer, 42, Samir Esmail, 24, and Hashem Abdul Rahman, 21. All the three are relatives, from Karunagapally in Kerala.

“It is a very tragic situation. Basheer was looking forward to opening a new shop and had just brought his brother-in-law Samir and relative Hashem to work for him,” Saeed Mohammad, a close friend who knew him for some years, said.

Basheer is survived by his wife and three-year-old son, who are in India now on vacation.

“We told his wife that he had met with an accident but they are yet to be informed about his death.”

Basheer, who previously owned a grocery, was in the process of setting up a new mobile phone shop, which was due to be inaugurated within the next few days.

Both Esmail and Rahman had arrived in the UAE, for the first time, less than five days ago. Both were unmarried.

“They were returning after purchasing some items for the shop from Dubai,” added Mohammad.

Relatives are now completing the formalities with the help of the Indian Consulate in Dubai to repatriate the bodies to India at the earliest.
