Ras Al Khaimah: The Ras Al Khaimah (RAK) Traffic and Licensing Department will receive three advanced radars which can detect several types of traffic violations.

Colonel Nasser Salem Muradad, who heads the department, said the new radars are able to register various types of violations including speeding, wanted vehicles, failure to leave enough distance between cars on the streets and wrong surpassing of vehicles.

He added that the areas where the radars would be installed have also been decided. The new radars would help to control the emirate's streets and provide better safety for pedestrians. He said the first radar will be handed over to RAK Traffic and Licensing Department in a few days where it will be experimented. The other two radars will be given to the department shortly after the delivery of the first one.

He said that the new technology is of importance for the traffic personnel to control the vehicles on the streets, adding that the instructions from the Ministry of Interior have clearly stated the need to use the best possible technology in providing the highest safety standards on the RAK streets.

Colonel Muradad said that the new radars will be programmed with the number plates of wanted vehicles and will alert the traffic authorities when a wanted car is spotted where the authorities concerned will be able to locate and seize it.

Ras Al Khaimah currently has five radars , fixed and mobile radars, but with the addition of the three more radars, the number in the emirate will jump to eight and that will be of great help to the traffic authorities in the emirate.
