Three others hurt in separate accidents in Sharjah, Khor Fakkan
Sharjah Police have arrested a 20-year-old Emirati motorist suspected in a hit-and-run accident in Khor-Fakkan City, which left a woman injured.
The 24-year-old woman of Sudanese nationality was seriously injured when a car ran over her while she was crossing the road at a traffic light area along Shaikh Khalid Al Qasimi Street on Monday afternoon. She was transferred to Khor Fakkan hospital for treatment.
The woman sustained serious injuries and fractures in her left forearm,, left leg and bruises at her face. Police and paramedics moved to the scene of the incident after the police operation room received a report around 12.45pm. Eyewitnesses told police that a driver had caused the accident and drove away.
Police launched a hunt for the missing motorist. They were able to identify the vehicle from data gathered at the accident scene and arrested the suspect.
Officers said their investigations revealed that the suspect came from Fujairah toward Khor Fakkan when the accident took place and he was driving his car at a high speed at the time of the accident without giving priority to pedestrians to cross from designated area.
He is said to have confessed that he ran over the woman and fled the scene because she suddenly appeared in front of him and crossed the road and he tried to avoid hitting but he failed to do so, and then he fled the scene.
The man was arrested hours after the incident. The case has been referred to public prosecution to complete other legal procedures.
Meanwhile, in Sharjah three people were injured after a collision, which involved thre cars. The accident took place on Tuesday afternoon on the Sharjah-to-Al Dhaid road between bridge No. 2 and bridge No.3, said Major Khalid Al Kay, deputy director of the traffic department at the Sharjah Police. Police operation room received a call at 2pm reporting the incident.
An Emirati woman sustained moderate injuries and was transferred to Al Qasimi hospital, Major Al Kay said, while the other victims of Indian nationality were treated at the scene of the accident for minor injuries.
