Ras Al Khaimah: Safety measures are being put in place after four women plunged to their death last Sunday due to a road's poor conditions.

The Emirati women were on their way to congratulate a friend on her newborn baby when the four-wheel drive they were travelling in skidded off Wadi Al Koub - Wadi Al Aym Street and plunged into a valley. Four other people were seriously injured.

The Traffic and Licensing Department and the Works and General Services Department set up an urgent committee to review the condition of the road and implement improvements to ensure no other casualties occur.

The committee presided by Colonel Hassan Rashid Al Braiki, Deputy Director of the Traffic and Licensing Department visited the accident scene three times.

Colonel Al Braiki said the areas around the street will be earmarked, and steel barriers would be installed on both sides of the street.

He added that work has started immediately to minimise the road's steep slope.
