Sharjah: Sharjah Municipality has announced the launch of an SMS parking system that gives motorists the option of paying for parking their vehicles by sending a text message to 5566.

The SMS-parking system which was launched on Tuesday, will be available in both English and Arabic and will apply to all Sharjah paid parking areas.

Riyadh Abdullah Aylan, Director-General of Sharjah Municipality, said the service aims to make more payment options available for residents in the emirate.

To make the payment using the new service, motorists need to send their plate number followed by place of issue to 5566. They will then receive a confirmation message showing the validity period of the ticket and another reminder message 10 minutes before the expiry time of the ticket. To extend the validity period of the ticket, motorists can send the letter ‘N’ to the same number.

The service does not require motorists to register their vehicles as long as they carry a UAE plate number.

Users of both telecom providers etisalat and du will be able to use the new service.
