Ajman: Shaikh Khalifa Imam Street in Ajman opened on Friday after expansion work was 95 per cent complete.

The Municipality and Planning Department said the road was reworked to ease traffic flow, while its opening date was set to coincide with the start of the new academic year.

Yahia Ebrahim Ahmad, director of the municipality, said the expansion of Shaikh Khalifa Imam Street is one of the most vital projects completed in the emirate. The road now has four lanes in each direction. The reworks were done starting from the intersection of Shaikh Khalifa Imam street with Shaikh Rashid Bin Abdul Aziz Street up to its intersection with Union Street.

Ahmad said the works on the road, which cost Dh3.5 million, were expected to finish by the end of September. “The department works to achieve the aims and ambitions of the emirate’s leaders,” he said, adding: “these projects help in transforming Ajman into a tourist destination.”
