Dubai: Mini water coolers are set to be installed in Dubai taxis after a trial run, according to the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).

The Dubai Taxi Corporation (DTC) and RTA recently signed an agreement with Al Ain Mineral Water to supply and install the coolers in taxis.

CEO Abdul Aziz Malek of DTC said there will be a three-month trial period using 350 taxis at the airport.

The trial period may be extended to assess the feasibility of the coolers. This project is expected to generate additional income.

All bottles of water sold through this service will bear the logo of the RTA and Dubai Taxi along with phone numbers for customer care service centres.

Added charges

Malek said that the cost of the bottles would be added to the meter fare to avoid potential irregularities.

Fasahat Beg, general manager of Al Ain Mineral Water, said that a dedicated team has been set up for this project to oversee various aspects including management of stocks, monitoring, installation, pricing structure and safety measures, in addition to the maintenance and performance of the water coolers.

He added that the team would also look into feedback in order to improve the service and offer better services to customers.
