Dubai: Residents of Dubai can now have trained drivers on call after the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) launched a Mashaweer service.

The initiative allows people to hire drivers on an hourly, daily, weekly or monthly basis for a fixed fare by placing a call or booking through Dubai Taxi Corporation’s (DTC) website.

The service is also available form the DTC Customer Service Office in Airport Terminal 3.

Drivers can be hired for a minimum of two hours at Dh40 per hour, while a daily fare for a maximum of eight hours would be Dh250.

The charges for weekly and monthly rental are Dh1,000 and Dh3,500 respectively.

Mohammad Yousef Salih, Director of DTC Fleet Operations, said: “The launch of the Mashaweer service involves the deployment of drivers on call in order for the DTC to honour its commitments and deliver best-in-class services to taxi users.

“The new service allows for hiring drivers, without taxis, to interested parties for a limited period of time agreed upon between the two parties, provided that the interested individual or corporate customer has to provide a vehicle, with comprehensive insurance and fuel.”

Salih added: “This initiative is primarily aimed at providing a community service to businesses as well as individuals living in Dubai Emirate through deploying fully trained and competent drivers up to the task required. The initiative is bound to be of benefit to both the DTC and the requester through bypassing the hassles of bringing drivers from abroad.

“Moreover, it helps reserve the rights of all parties through contracts made, and delivers top quality service at competitive rates in a flexible timeline and with multiple options

“We are trying to curb negative practices of hiring illegal drivers among the people so have kept the prices very reasonable so that anybody who requires such a service can afford it.”
