Most of the affected streets will be cordoned off at 4pm to prevent bottlenecks
Dubai: Roads surrounding the Burj Khalifa area and Dubai Mall will be closed on December 31, mostly starting from 4pm onwards, to prevent bottlenecks during New Year’s Festivities.
The closures were announced on Tuesday during a press conference held by the Events Security Committee (ESC) in Dubai.
Hussein Al Bana, Executive Director of Traffic and Roads at the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), said its teams will work in cooperation with Dubai Police and property developer Emaar to manage the closures.
According to the RTA, the Mohammed Bin Rashid Boulevard will be closed from 4pm when parking in the area becomes full. Those with reservations in the Boulevard area or Dubai Mall should therefore arrive before 4pm .
The lower Financial Centre Road will also see a closure from 4pm, while the Upper Financial Centre Street starts at 9pm.
Sheikh Zayed Road will be closed at 11pm.
In addition, Al Asayel Street will be closed from 4pm, and it will serve as an emergency route and bus layby.
Future Street will close at 4pm on the stretch between the interchange of DIFC and Dubai World Trade centre. It will remain closed until the festivities conclude.
