Man died while racing another car not in high-speed pursuit, says official

Sharjah: Police have quashed rumours that a patrol chased a modified car and its driver to his death.

An official source at Sharjah Police told Gulf News that rumours circulated on Blackberry and Twitter stating that A.S.K.K, an Emirati national, died in a car crash on Friday while being chased by a Sharjah Police Patrol because of his illegally modified car.

However. the source said that A.S.K.K. died after he crashed while racing with another car on Al Maleiha road and was not being chased by the police as rumours had suggested.

The source also indicated that 26 new speed cameras are to installed on Al Maleiha.

In an unrelated accident, an Emirati man and his two children died on Friday, while their maid is in a critical condition in the hospital, after their car crashed on the Sharjah-Kalba highway. The children were two and four years old.
