Parallel Roads project on schedule, Al Tayer says

Dubai: Construction work on the Parallel Roads from Trade Centre to Jebel Ali is on track and will be completed on time, a senior official said.

Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) added that 60 per cent of the construction work on the Phase III (B) of Parallel Roads Improvement Project, 40 per cent of Phase III (A) of the same project have been completed while work on 50 per cent of Phase II (C) of the project, and 30 per cent of Rashid Hospital Tunnels Project have been done.

Parallel roads are being constructed starting from Shaikh Rashid Road near Zabeel Park (Trade Centre) and end at Jebel Ali on Dubai-Abu Dhabi borders. The aim is to provide an alternate road corridor to serve areas between Shaikh Zayed Road and Al Khail Road. The roads run through Business Bay, Al Quoz, Al Barsha, The Greens, Emirates Hills, Meadows, Springs and many other new developments.

During his inspection tour to various sites of the projects, Al Tayer stressed the importance of complying with the approved time schedule of the project to serve many mega property projects and traffic movement in the vicinity of the projects.

Al Tayer also inspected work progress in Phase III (A) of the project, which is located at Jumeirah Lake Towers area, and links property developments of both Nakheel and Emaar in the area to the south of Shaikh Zayed Road

The RTA chairman also inspected progress of work in Rashid Hospital Tunnels Project. The project includes construction of roads and two tunnels of two lanes each side extending 900 meters to serve the traffic coming from Tariq Bin Ziyad and Umm Hurair Roads towards the intersection of Al Riyadh Road and the extension of the Floating Bridge Road.

The intersection of Al Riyadh Road with the extension of the Floating Bridge Road will be widened to four lanes, and the project also includes widening of Tariq Bin Ziyad Road, improvement of Oud Metha and Umm Hurair Road, and the construction of a road to serve traffic inbound from the Floating Bridge towards Tariq Bin Ziyad Road.

Al Tayer said the RTA is following up construction works on several road projects as part of its strategy and continuous efforts to keep pace with the urban development and meet the requirements of new developments.
