Dubai: One person was killed and nine others injured in 16 traffic accidents reported in Dubai during the Eid Al Fitr holidays, Dubai Police said on Thursday.

Brigadier Saif Muhair Al Mazroui, director of Traffic Department in Dubai Police, said the accidents took place due to speeding and inattention.

Dubai Police also recorded 14,320 traffic offences during Eid Al Fitr and seized 47 vehicles for reckless driving.

“The seized vehicles included motorbikes. Violations included organising random parades, reckless driving, endangering the lives of other road users, racing and annoying residents,” Brig Al Mazroui said.

Dubai Police also rescued six women who were trapped in a villa’s elevator on the second day of Eid Al Fitr.

Major Abdullah Beshwa, deputy director of the Land Rescue and Difficult Missions Department at Dubai Police, said they were alerted about the incident in a villa in Emirates Hills.

“We sent a patrol to the villa and rescued the women,” Maj Beshwa said.

The department also handled five emergencies during Eid Al Fitr, one which involved rescuing a man trapped inside a room in Al Mezher area.

Police also towed away three vehicles involved in traffic accidents, including a heavy vehicle.
