Dubai: Taxi starting fare from the Cruise Terminal at Port Rashid in Dubai has been increased to Dh20 with effect from May 1.

"The Dh20 taxi starting fare will apply to passengers and visitors who arrive at Cruise Terminal of Port Rashid by taking the sea route," said Eisa Abdul Rahman Al Dossary, Chief Executive Officer of the Public Transport Agency at the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).

He said the decision was taken to cater to the rising demand for taxi service by passengers arriving in Dubai through Rashid Port.

"The new fare structure will ensure availability of the required number of taxis waiting for tourists and visitors at the Cruise Terminal," he added.

Passengers arriving at Dubai International Airport also have to pay Dh20 starting fare. Recently, the RTA fixed the minimum taxi fare in Dubai at Dh10.

Taxis also charge Dh20 in addition to the meter fare for taking passengers to Sharjah and other Northern Emirates.
