Dubai: A British man was killed in crash with a 4x4 on the Dubai-Hatta Road on Saturday morning, Dubai police said.

According to a police official from the traffic department at Dubai police, a 30-year-old Briton was killed when his motorcycle crashed with a four-wheel drive truck driven by an Egyptian man.

Police said the crash took place at 8.40am just a few metres before the Al Aweer roundabout on the bypass on the way to Dubai-Hatta Road.

Police patrols reached the traffic accident scene shortly after they received a call from the Land Cruiser driver.

The police official said the British man died immediately because of the strong hit by the Land Cruiser which ran over him.

The police official said the incident happen when the motorcyclist veered into oncoming traffic.

“The bypass is a highway and motorists should not take a u-turn by any means on this road, motorists should use the roundabouts in order to go to other directions of the bypass,” a police spokesperson said.

“We are investigating how and why the accident took place and a report from the traffic committee will be issued soon."

Police said the Egyptian driver of the Land Cruiser who is also in his mid-thirties was in custody.

The Ministry of Interior warned on Saturday that 15 motorcyclists were killed in traffic accidents across the country between January 1 and December 1. They were killed due to reckless driving, police said.

The Ministry called for motorcyclists to adhere to the traffic rules and regulations to avoid crashes.
