Dubai: An Emirati man was killed in a horrific traffic accident early on Saturday. A senior Dubai police official said the motorist sustained fatal burns after his vehicle caught fire.

Major General Mohammad Saif Al Zafein, chief of Dubai Traffic Department at Dubai Police confirmed that an Emirati man was burnt alive in his car after it crashed into a signboard on the Dubai Bypass Road. The accident led to a traffic jam on the road for hours.

He said the driver of the sports utility vehicle was apparently speeding when he lost control. “The driver got stuck in the car which caught fire after the crash at around 8am,” he said.

Primary investigations revealed that the driver was speeding when the car suddenly swerved into concrete barricades on the right side of the road before crashing into the signboard, Maj. Gen. Al Zafein said.

He said that car was completely burnt and it took police hours to cut it open and remove the body.
