Sharjah: Motorists in Sharjah can now access the redeveloped Shaikh Mohammad Bin Saqr Al Qasimi Street and the Kuwaiti Hospital Roundabout, which had both been closed for renovation.

The street is open after months of detours following renovation work in the area, while the roundabout — also known as the Mubarak Bin Saif Roundabout — has been converted into an intersection with traffic signals.

The reopening has come in time for the new school year when traffic swells with school buses and family cars ferrying students between home and school.

It will also make it easier for ambulances and other vehicles to access the Kuwaiti Hospital located at the intersection.

The development will better manage traffic flow in the direction of Al Nasirya and Al Qadsiay neighbourhoods and surrounding areas, in addition to serving as an important cross section from southern areas to Cornish Street, the Directorate of Public Works in Sharjah said in a statement on Tuesday.

The Directorate added that residents with suggestions about traffic and road conditions can call a dedicated hotline number — 800 86767.
