Al Ain: A nine-year-old girl, who escaped injury in the Al Wagan accident, witnessed the gruesome scene of crash victims on fire and dying while she was running around for help on the deserted road.

She was later comforted by the police rescue party that reached the scene of the accident, a traffic police official told Gulf News. A team of detectives has been investigating the accident which is considered one of the worst in Al Ain in recent years.

Some 12 people, eight Emiratis and four Omanis, lost their lives in the accident on the Al Ain-Al Wagan Road on Thursday night. A five-year-old boy, one of the three injured admitted to Tawam Hospital, is fighting for his life.

"The girl was sleeping between the seats of the vehicle that was carrying 14 passengers and returning from a marriage celebration," said the officer.

The sudden impact of the accident woke her.

"She ran as far as 300 metres from the accident site but there was nobody on the deserted road to rescue her loved ones," said the officer.

The first rescue party later found the shocked girl.
