Abu Dhabi: Free bus services to transport worshippers between the Abu Dhabi suburbs and Shaikh Zayed Grand Mosque have been launched by the Department of Transport.

The department also announced that public transport bus services will be partially suspended during iftar and suhoor timings in Ramadan.

Thirty buses have been allocated to transfer passengers for free to have iftar at the mosque. Buses will leave from three locations towards Shaikh Zayed Grand Mosque from 4pm to 6.45pm as follows: From the Industrial City (ICAD) in Musaffah: 20 buses, from the Workers’ Village (Musaffah) five buses and another five buses from Al Mafraq Workers City.

Buses will depart from Shaikh Zayed Grand Mosque returning to the same locations after iftar starting from 7.45pm until 9pm daily.

Mohammad Nasser Al Otaiba, Acting General Manager of the Bus Office at the DoT said: ”[This initiative] comes to facilitate the mobility of worshippers during iftar and prayer times, and aims to minimise traffic congestion and avoid illegally parked vehicles in the areas surrounding the mosque.”

Meanwhile, the DoT has announced the modified schedule of the free ‘Park and Ride’ service, departing from Zayed Sports City, which will operate daily from 7am to 5pm during Ramadan.
