Dubai: One of the two injured in the traffic accident on Monday claiming the lives of three men is recovering at hospital while the other is still in the ICU fighting for his life, police said on Tuesday.

Police said that two Pakistanis and one Bangladeshi were killed in the traffic accident on Monday at 2.45pm when their car, which was parked on the hard shoulder, was hit by a vehicle driven by a 22-year-old Sudanese.

Police said the traffic accident took place on Emirates Road near Al Warqaa Interchange in front of Mirdif City Centre.

According to police, the man who caused the accident is in police custody.

Police said the Sudanese man was driving a car owned by his father.

Police said if the car is fully insured it does not matter who was driving the car.

“The insurance is always done on the car itself and not based on the driving licence,” police said.

Police said the case will be transferred soon to the traffic public prosecution for further investigation.

Police said some drive very recklessly and irresponsibly.

“Yesterday night a Nissan Patrol car was seized by traffic police patrol because the driver was speeding at over 200km/h,” police said.

Colonel Saif Muhair Al Mazroui, Dubai Police’s deputy director of the general traffic department, said the Asian victims’ car was smashed when the speeding Toyota Prado driven by the Sudanese swerved from the third lane in the Dubai-Sharjah direction.

Colonel Al Mazroui said the Sudanese was driving at 150km/h and the speeding caused the car to skid and hit the other car from behind. The impact of the collision was so strong that both the back and the front of the victims’ car was smashed.

“The victims were stuck inside the car and we had to cut the car to take them out,” he said.

“We are investigating why the car was on the shoulder. The tyres and the engine will be checked,” he said.

He said the report on why the car was parked there will be issued after the police workshop completes checking the car and issues a report.
