Dubai: Owners of old taxi number plates have received a bonus of Dh33.28 million from His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

RTA’s Dubai Taxi Corporation and other franchises operate 6,656 registered taxi plates that have been carried forward from Emirati citizens who owned taxis before the franchise system came into place in the late 1990s.

This year the old taxi owners received a 25 per cent increase in bonus. The RTA announced that the distribution of the 2015 bonus to the entitled recipients will begin from this week. The amount is over and above their annual financial dues.

Mattar Al Tayer, director-general and chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of RTA, thanked Shaikh Mohammad for rewarding taxi plate owners, who are part of the fixed income group, enabling them to better cope with the requirements of life and decent living for them and their families.
