Dubai: Dubai Police have warned motorists against the dangerous habit of drivers slowing down or stopping to watch accident scenes, a practice officials say not only disrupts traffic but also endangers lives and delays emergency response.

Brigadier Juma Salem Bin Suwaidan, Acting Director of the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police, said that motorists who stop or slow down to observe accident sites face a fine of Dh1,000 and black points on their driving record under the federal traffic law.

He emphasized that such behavior “poses a serious threat to road safety and to human lives, while hindering the timely arrival of emergency teams.”

Police noted that crowding around accident locations often worsens injuries and delays rescue efforts. Curious drivers, officials said, frequently reduce speed or stop abruptly, triggering traffic jams and secondary collisions.

Dubai Police urged motorists to maintain safe driving practices, including keeping a proper distance between vehicles, adhering to speed limits, and signaling before changing lanes.

They also highlighted ongoing awareness campaigns, both on the ground and online, to reinforce safe driving habits and remind motorists that “curiosity at accident sites is not just a bad habit, it is a traffic violation that can end in tragedy.”

Brigadier bin Suwaidan stressed that every second counts in emergencies. “The delays caused by unnecessary congestion may cost a life,” he said, urging drivers to act responsibly and avoid stopping in the middle of the road for any reason. In cases where a vehicle cannot be moved, motorists are advised to immediately contact Dubai Police for assistance.
