Dubai: Dubai Metro ridership in the first half of 2018 climbed by nearly three million commuters compared to the same period in 2017, says the Roads and Transport Authority.
Until July 1, the Dubai Metro Red Line and Green Line have provided public transport to 103.2 million riders as compared to 100.5 million riders for the same period last year, the authority said on Wednesday.
Roads officials said “Dubai Metro has accounted for the lion’s share of public transport ridership amounting to 37.17 per cent”.
The Red Line has proved more popular with the RTA recording 66.8 million commuters so far this year while the Green Line accounted for 36.4 million travellers.
The Dubai Tram, meanwhile, attracted about 3.2 million riders.
The interchange stations between the Red and Green metro lines have recorded the highest number of riders, with BurJuman station leading the way recording 6.3 million riders, followed by Union station which received about 5.4 million riders.
The order of the busiest stations on the Red Line has changed, with JLT station jumping to the top, serving 5.5 million riders, ahead of Al Rigga station with 4.9 million riders and Burj Khalifa-Dubai Mall station with 3.9 million commuters.
On the Green Line, Al Fahidi station topped that list by serving four million riders followed by Baniyas station with 3.3 million riders and Stadium station which hosted 2.8 million riders.
