Dubai: Grocery shopping in Dubai has become a breeze as Dubai Metro commuters can now shop through the Roads and Transport Authority’s (RTA) Smart Mall and have the goods delivered home free of cost.

Currently live at Mall of the Emirates metro station and on display at the 35th Gitex Technology Week, the Smart Mall enables people to sift through a range of 300 food products via an interactive 3D Ultra High Definition (UHD) nine square metre screen.

Two customers can interact with the screen at the same time.

“We have introduced the Smart Mall at five metro stations as a trial. It is currently live at Mall of the Emirates station. We are starting only with food products and as we move on we will have more items. The idea is to help people shop on the go and save their time and effort. Customers can set a time of delivery and have the items delivered at their doorstep,” said Mohammad Al Mudharreb, Director of Rail Operations at RTA.

The Smart Mall is also available at Damac Properties, Dubai Internet City, Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank and Baniyas metro stations.

Being set up in conjunction with etisalat, the service can be availed of by anyone with a credit or debit card.

“We have devised a very simple system. There is no need to log in or create an account. All you have to do is key in your address and mobile number while shopping for the first time. Then activate the smart cart by tapping on the left bottom corner of the screen and select the items and quantity after which you must swipe your credit/debit card to complete the transaction. The goods will be delivered to your chosen address at the time given,” he added.

In the next stage, the Smart Mall will be installed at many more stations, and payments through Nol cards will also be accepted.
