Distinguished licence plate auction fetches Dh3m

The three-digit numbers comprised 18 numbers with a nominal value of Dh60,000 for each number.

Distinguished licence plate number 113 sold for Dh205,000 yesterday. The bid was the highest during the 12th auction held by Dubai Traffic Police at Al Barsha Traffic Police Centre.

According to officials, the total profit made by Dubai Traffic Police since the auctioning system started in June 2001, and up until this auction, is Dh199.960 million.

The revenues earned in yesterday's auction reached Dh3 million amid fierce competition, said Brigadier Mohammad Saif Al Zafein, director of Dubai Traffic Police.

"The auction comprised 69 numbers comprising three, four and five digits with a total nominal value of Dh1.734 million. These numbers sold for Dh3.813 million."

Brigadier Al Zafein added that the number 113 sold for Dh205,000 which was the highest bid.

The three-digit numbers comprised 18 numbers with a nominal value of Dh60,000 for each number.

"These numbers were 113, 225, 334, 441, 552, 663, 773, 881, 993, 116, 229, 337, 448, 554, 665, 886, 776, and 997. The total profit made by selling these numbers reached Dh1,080,000," Brigadier Al Zafein said.

He added the first group of the five digit numbers was made up of nine numbers, the nominal value of each was Dh40,000.

These numbers were 10101, 20202, 30303, 40404, 50505, 60606, 70707, 80808, and 90909. They sold for a total value of Dh586,000.

"The second group of the five digit numbers were made up of 18 numbers and the nominal value of each number was Dh3,000. These numbers were 11666, 22777, 33444, 44222, 55333, 66444, 77111, 88222, 99111, 11999, 22888, 33999, 44888, 55777, 66999, 77444, 88555, and 99777.

"They sold for Dh318,00," he said.

The four digit numbers were made up of 24 numbers with a nominal value of Dh10,000 each. These numbers sold for a total value of Dh739,000.

"These numbers were 1444, 1999, 2111, 2444, 2999, 3222, 3555, 3888, 4222, 4555, 4777, 5222, 5444, 5888, 6111, 6333, 6777, 7333, 7999, 8444, 8777, 9222, 9444, and 9666," Brigadier Al Zafein said.

Transactions halted for new system

Dubai Traffic Police have temporarily stopped all transactions, such as car registration, to upgrade their computer system at all locations where these services are available.

On Saturday, June 25, a specialised team will carry out a trial of the new system from 2 to 8pm.

Services will then resume on Sunday, June 26.
