Dubai: A new intercity bus route will connect Stadium metro station in Al Ghusais with Al Taawun bus station in Sharjah, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced.

Four additional feeder bus routes will also operate from Friday, offering greater connectivity to areas such as Al Karama, Al Quoz and Discovery Gardens.

Route E301 brings a great relief to thousands of commuters between Sharjah and Dubai, offering a direct link from Stadium metro station, which most Sharjah commuters use as a last stop before boarding a feeder bus to the area behind Sahara Centre.

“This new intercity route will come in handy, especially to the residents of Al Taawun. Earlier, like many others, I used to get off at the Stadium metro, taking a connecting feeder bus to Al Nahda, behind Sahara Centre, and then another Sharjah transport bus home, which used to be very exhausting,” said Ahmad Nazeer, a Pakistani sales executive.

Another commuter urged the RTA to start more direct buses to different areas of Sharjah.

“RTA should start a direct bus from Stadium Metro station to Al Nahda as well. Thousands of people use the connecting service to Sahara Centre and onwards to Al Nahda. A direct service will save us a lot of time,” said Marcos, a Filipino technician.

RTA’s Public Transport Agency will also launch four additional feeder routes from April 15, while improvements and extensions have been announced for 13 other routes.

Adel Mohammad Shakeri, director of Transportation Systems at Public Transport Agency, said that the five internal new routes cover a great part of Dubai.

Route F02 starts sy Al Fahidi Metro dtation, heading to Al Karama via Al Mankhool and Burjuman.

Route F16 will start from Noor Bank Metro station heading towards the new Al Quoz Residential Area, F17 will link Noor Bank Metro station to Al Khail Gate residential area and F42 will connect Ibn Battuta Metro station to Discovery Gardens.

Shakeri announced improvements to 13 other routes including Route F54, which will be extended to UAE Exchange Metro station, F05 will be extended to Arabian Centre, F03 to Mirdif East, F26 to Al Quoz bus station, F46 to Dunes Village, 99 to Jebel Ali South, F47 to Expo 2020 Office and F33 to Al Barsha Mall bus station.
