Abu Dhabi: The 15th International Road Safety on Four Continents Conference is being hosted by the UAE.

The conclave gets under way at the Yas Hotel, Abu Dhabi at 10am Sunday. Delegates from over 50 countries and 10 organisations are set to take part in the event.

The international gathering is being held under the patronage of His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. The UAE is being represented by the National Transport Authority (NTA) at the event.

The conference, being held in the region for the first time, will run until March 30. It coincides with the implementation of the executive steps of UAE Vision 2021 to enhance the country's international standing. The vision statement asserts: "We want to be among the first countries in the world by 2021."

The hosting and organising of the conference by the NTA comes as part of efforts to implement the authority's strategic plan and achieve its strategic targets which include strengthening the trust of local and international communities in traffic safety in the UAE.
