Aside from using brand new quality tyres, there are other methods to keep your tyres in good condition
Dubai: Besides using quality brand new tyres, the way you use them is crucial in ensuring that your tyres don’t get worn out quicker than they should. Here’s a checklist that may help you:
1) Proper pressure. Over-inflation and under-inflation can cause excess heat generation, especially in the summer. Overloading the tyre has the same heating effect. For a truck, it is necessary to check or top up air at least every week. If tyres are filled with nitrogen, this can also help reduce the levels of heat generated.
2) Balance. Tyres that are not properly balanced put uneven pressure on the tyre treads, which could generate excessive heat and cause them to wear unevenly. Also, it can cause problems on your wheel bearings and suspension system in the long run.
3) Alignment. If your tyres are not correctly aligned this will also result in excess heat generation and cause irregular wear.
4) Tread depth. The minimum tread depth is 1.6mm in the case of passenger cars, 2.4mm in case of light trucks and 3.2mm in case of trucks and buses. If tyres are used beyond this limit it is very unsafe. Not only are you at greater risk from tyre-related accident, but you also lose grip which is critical in maintaining control of your vehicle.
5) Sharp objects. Avoid hitting sharp objects or debris that could damage your tyres, and reduce your contact with potential hazards like pot holes or curb edges.
