Sharjah Police have intensified their efforts to curb distracted driving by using advanced smart cameras to catch violators.

A recently released video showcases multiple incidents of drivers using their phones while driving, highlighting the dangers of such behaviour. These include drivers using mobile phones for calls, texts, photos, and even videos while driving.

The video shared on X showed multiple motorists using their phones while driving. “A moment of distraction can lead to disaster,” Sharjah Police warned on social media, urging drivers to stay focused. “Your safety and that of others begins with the right decision.”

Dh800 fine, 4 black points

Authorities warn that using a mobile phone while driving can result in a Dh800 fine and four black points, urging drivers to stay focused for their safety and others.

Under UAE law, reckless drivers caught texting, talking, or filming behind the wheel have been penalised through direct police enforcement or smart traffic monitoring.

Authorities continue to caution against phone use while driving, including browsing, calling, and taking photos—behaviours that significantly increase the risk of serious accidents.

Commitment to road safety

Sharjah Police released a video highlighting their commitment to traffic safety, a key strategic goal aimed at improving quality of life and creating a safe, sustainable traffic environment in collaboration with their partners.

Dh 1,000 fine, 6 black points for overtaking on hard shoulder

Sharjah Police regularly share footage online to stress the importance of following traffic rules and driving responsibly.

Last week, a video showed motorists dangerously using the hard shoulder to bypass traffic. “This is not a solution but a threat to your safety and others. Stick to your lane—the law protects you, and the road is your responsibility,” police warned.

In the UAE, the hard shoulder (or road shoulder) is the paved emergency lane on the far right side of a road or highway, marked by bold yellow lines. Under UAE Traffic Law, overtaking on the shoulder incurs a Dh1,000 fine and six black points.

While smart technology helps reduce road fatalities, officials stress that driver cooperation is essential for safer roads.
