Dubai: Dubai Civil Defence and Tasjeel have launched a campaign titled ‘Save Lives with Car Fire Extinguisher’ to raise community awareness about the importance of keeping a fire fighting kit in cars.

The campaign focuses on the necessary steps to protect individuals and their families from the various potential dangers that may face road users.

“The recent statistics on car accidents stressed the need for having fire extinguishers in cars because of their importance in lessening incidents and controlling them before damage becomes exacerbated,” said Major General Rashid Thani Al Matrooshi, director general of the UAE Civil Defence during a press conference held at Tasjeel’s main office. However, when asked he did not reveal the statistics on car fires accident, he said the figures would be revealed at the end of the campaign.

The campaign will target a large sector of the community through advertising signboards, brochures and media coverage in shopping malls around the city.

Tasjeel vehicle registration centres, petrol stations, and Civil Defence centres will also show video clips to raise community awareness on the importance of fire extinguishers.

A line-up of activities will also be implemented throughout the three-month period which will target all members of the family.

The activities will include fire extinguisher games by NAFFCO, several competitions, as well as hands-on training by firemen on how to safely use a fire extinguisher.

The campaign will take place at the Global Village on December 5, JBR on December 13, Dubai Mall on 10 January, Mall of the Emirates on 31 January, and Mirdif City Centre on February 7.
