Dubai: Motorists from across the UAE can now renew their driving licences and vehicle registrations at the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) facilities in Dubai.

"The facility to get the car registration and driving licences issued from other emirates will be available in Dubai with effect from October 5 at selected offices of the RTA in Dubai," said Ahmad Hashim Behroozian, Chief Executive Officer of the RTA’ Licensing Agency.

He explained that the RTA has finalised an arrangement with the Ministry of Interior and the Dubai Police to implement a Federal Traffic and Licencing System in Dubai, enabling the processing of renewed driving licences and vehicle registrations, to be carried out anywhere in the UAE.

The service will initially be available at the RTA Main Customer Service Centre at Umm Al Ramool, Deira Licencing Centre and Al Barsha Licensing Centre. The number of centres offering these services will increase gradually.

Behroozian says the service marks phase II of the Traffic Systems Merging Scheme which is taking place throughout the UAE and which aims at simplifying the procedures for renewal of vehicle registration and driving licences, and unifying the traffic database from all of the emirates.

"Phase III, which is the final phase of the scheme, will cover data sharing in the two systems – the RTA's system in Dubai and the Federal System all over the country. The completion of the Phase III will enable motorists to renew licences and vehicle registration issued in Dubai and in other emirates as well," he added.

Brigadier Ghaith Hassan Al Za'abi, Director General of Traffic Coordination at the Ministry of the Interior said: "The new facility will make it easier to serve customers dealing with both the Ministry of Interior and the RTA, through providing such services at Service Centres across the UAE".
