Sharjah: Vehicle owners and motorists who have accumulated fines are eligible for discounts of up to 50 per cent on their outstanding fines if these are paid by the end of the year, police said.

The slash in traffic fines was approved at the Ajman Police meeting on Tuesday.

Ajman Police Commander-in-Chief Brigadier General Ali Abdullah Alwan said the initiative aims to lift the burden of traffic violation fees registered in Ajman.

He added that the initiative will maintain the public’s safety by not violating traffic laws and regulations.

He added that the initiative will be applied beginning Sunday through to the end of 2014.

The reduction in traffic fines will be valid for three months, after which the nominal value of the fine has to be paid.

This applies to fines committed over the previous period.

Brig Gen Alwan explained that the reduction will include all kinds of fines issued by police, including impounding of vehicles.
