Abu Dhabi: The Department of Transport (DoT) in Abu Dhabi announced a new service that allows visitors of registered villas to obtain a parking permit by sending an SMS.
Villa owners can now request for visitor’s parking permit in two cases. The first is for permits for occasions. In such cases, the owner of the villa should call the contact centre on 80088888 from the registered phone number in the system. The DoT will specify the duration of the permit.
The second type of registration is for visitors’ permits. To obtain the permit, the owner of the villa should send a text message from the registered phone number in the system. The permit will be valid for eight hours once the request is submitted between 12am to 8am.
The text message should mention the city code and plate code, the plate number, sector number and number of hours.
Each SMS will be charged according to the tariff of the service providers. Visitor’s permit is free of charge for nationals and Dh2 for others per hour. Customers can specify the number of hours in the text message.
Permits approved are subject to Mawaqif rules and regulations including Ramadan and official holidays.
The DoT also urged the public to avoid parking their vehicles in prohibited areas and not to obstruct traffic flow.
