Abu Dhabi: Motorists in Abu Dhabi should take extra care at junctions as the Municipality of Abu Dhabi City announced that timings for traffic signals at some junctions have been adjusted.
The signals at the busiest junctions along the Tourist Club area, the intersection of Al Salam Street with Al Falah Street, Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank toward Le Meridien Hotel, and the alternative routes have been adjusted, said a press release issued by the municipality.
The closure of Al Salam Street in front of the municipality building recently affected the traffic situation in the area. As a result, a new alternative route has been opened.
The municipality has added a number of signs to alert and direct drivers to the alternative routes which have been opened. Road directions have also been placed at some of the busiest intersections. Alternative routes have been created to facilitate traffic and help road users reach their destination easily. Trucks and heavy vehicles are not allowed during peak times, which is from 6am to 8am.
In collaboration with the Abu Dhabi Police, the municipality continues to conduct field surveys with regards to Al Salam Street projects. The data being gathered assist in finding appropriate solutions to eliminate traffic congestion on Al Salam Street and all affected areas within the framework of the development.
About 2,250 to 3,000 vehicles per hour use the new diversion roads, and this has led to traffic congestion in the area over the past few days. The municipality, however, continues to find ways and means to remedy the situation in a timely manner.
The municipality continues to encourage motorists to stay within speed limits and respect all traffic rules.
Pedestrians, on the other hand, are urged to use proper crossing areas and bridges provided by the municipality for their own safety, said the press release.
