Dubai: Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is offering around 300 car number plates comprising three to five-digit plates, in its upcoming 54th online auction.

Plates on offer bear A, B, H, I, J, K, L, M, N, O, P, Q, R, S, and T-letter codes.

Registration of bidders will start on Sunday, September 30. The bidding starts at 8am on October 7 and will continue for five days.

Jamal Hashim Assada, director of vehicles licensing at RTA’s Licensing Agency, said: “The sales of licence plates in this auction will be subject to a five per cent VAT [Value Added Tax]. Wide public participation and positive competition for grabbing number plates, which is typical of open or online auctions, underscore the importance of holding these auctions. It reflects the role of such auctions in raising the satisfaction and happiness of clients among number plate enthusiasts.”

Assada added: “To participate in the auction, the client has to have an RTA account through the website, www.rta.ae, or use the ‘New User’ link to obtain a username and password. New user registration requires the applicant to have a vehicle registered in Dubai or a driver’s licence issued from Dubai.”

Assada said the potential bidder is also required to pay a security cheque worth Dh5,000 and a non-refundable Dh120 subscription fee. Payment can be made at RTA’s Customer Happiness Centres at Umm Ramool, Al Barsha or Deira. It can also be done online using a credit card, on the RTA site or the ‘Dubai Drive’ app. The successful bidder has to clear the payment within 10 working days from the date of the closing of the auction. Defaulters will be blacklisted.

“Online auctions are particularly appealing to a large segment of the community, as they avail bidders the liberty of selecting their fancied plates in a hassle-free environment. Moreover, this sort of auction contributes to enhancing the online services of RTA under an annual plan for improving the quality and standard of processing public transactions,” Assada added.

“A dedicated team at RTA’s call centre has been furnished with all information related to the auction. It stands ready to respond to any public enquiries relating to participation procedures or payment, through the toll-free number 8009090.”
