Air cargo operator Trans Mediterranean Airways (TMA) marked its inaugural Airbus A310-300F flight into Sharjah International Airport on Saturday.

The aircraft is leased from Islandsflug. TMA's strategic plan is to enhance its operations on the Europe, Beirut, UAE and Africa sectors, said Fadi Saab, chairman and president.

The carrier operates three routes from Sharjah, to Paris via Beirut, Nairobi via Eldoret, and to Entebbe, again via Eldoret.

"TMA has started operating this aircraft on its Europe-Beirut routes, while the existing B707F continues coverage of the Middle East-Africa network," he said.

He explained the carrier's facilities at Beirut International Airport would be increasingly used as a transshipment base where 120,000 tonnes can be handled annually.
