Zubair Andiyil was fond of sketching from a very early age. He spent long hours producing pictures of people at work, children playing and women doing their daily chores. Though he has no formal training in art, his work is appreciated by friends and relatives.

Andiyil feels there's much to be learned to make perfect a drawing. He says, "When we sketch objects around us we become more aware of our surroundings and are able to understand the effect of light, shade and colour."

Pencil sketching is what he is most comfortable with and he feels sketching communicates ideas rapidly through visual images and there is no need for precision or specialised knowledge in this field.

A lawyer by profession, Andiyil is from Kerala. He is also a musician. He enjoys teaching art to serious students.

He sketches purely for personal satisfaction and he often gives away his creations to friends and acquaintances. He enjoys sketching portraits. Once he starts he cannot stop until the picture is complete.

Andiyil has been known to forget everything once he is given a 2B pencil and a sketch pad.
