Wondering what to do when the rains come at the weekend? Fear not, here is the Gulf News guide to 10 things you can do when the weather heads south.

  1. Drive like Schumacher: No, not on Shaikh Zayed Road, that would be plain stupid. Head to the indoor karting track at Dubai Autodrome for some safe high speed thrills

  2. Sort your life out: The sunny weather makes us put off all kinds of chores and admin. This might seem boring, but why not spend the day getting up to date with paperwork? Who knows when you’ll get the chance again

  3. Movie at home: Sofa, coffee, snacks, friends (or loved ones) and a good movie. Perfect.

  4. Visit the motor-show: It’s on until 10pm and features more sexy cars than you can shake your gearstick at. Best of all, it’s indoors.

  5. Walk around town: Satwa, Bur Dubai, Deira and Karama are the beating hearts of Dubai. Put your umbrella up and take an evening stroll taking in the sights and sounds.

  6. Take the metro: Don’t fight through the traffic and the crazy drivers, head to Dubai and take a trip on the Metro. A joyride or visit to a part of town you’ve never seen before.

  7. Head to the beach: The rain might not be beach weather, but there are few things as refreshing as bracing walk along the beach in the rain.

  8. Make paper boats: Your car park, your apartment’s roof terrace or your garden can now double as a boating lake. Why not revive the ancient art of origami and go sailing.

  9. Make a Splash: Whether you’ve got the latest Pucci’s or an old battered pair of Wellingtons. Nothing beats the feeling of knowing your feet will be dry when you splash in the puddles

  10. Sega Republic: Why waste time, energy and too much of your hard earned cash dragging the family shopping at Dubai Mall. This is serious fun for the whole family.
