Los Angeles: The Emirati documentary, The Tainted Veil, will be screened for one week in Laemmle’s Playhouse 7 cinema in Los Angeles, starting from October 16.

The movie, an Anasy Media Production, is a collaboration of three different directors, documentary filmmaker veteran Ovidio Salazar, Mazen Al Khayrat and Nahla Al Fahd.

The Tainted Veil looks into the origins of the hijab, its place in societies today and its implications and effects over the centuries, as well as things that have led to it becoming a source of endless debate worldwide.

This experimental documentary, produced by Alyazia Bint Nahyan Al Nahyan, portrays a variety of opinions from around the world, taking a look through the eyes of the women who decide to wear the veil or not. With historical context and contributions from leading specialists, the facts about the hijab are laid bare.

The Tainted Veil has already been screened in London in June at a private showing attended by 85 guests. Among the guests at the special red carpet event at Hampstead’s Everyman Cinema were Shaikh Nahyan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development and Abdul Rahman Ganem Al Mutaiwe’e, UAE Ambassador to the UK.
