Teaching kids to reduce, re-use and recycle

In the present day environment, recycling workshops play an important role in society.

During the Art Surprises week of the Dubai Summer Surprises (DSS), the recycling workshops have been created with a singular objective in mind - challenge children to make art and craft objects from solid waste in an attempt to reduce, re-use and recycle.

Not only does recycling material help save money and natural resources, there is also an important element of saving storage space.

"Children are attending these workshops in large numbers, indicating the enthusiasm parents and children alike share about learning to protect our fragile ecosystem," said Amna Mohammed, member of the Art Surprises Organising Committee.

"If we combine all our individual efforts, we can certainly make a difference."

Unlike other school subjects in which there is only one right answer to the problem, practical art solutions to recycling allow children to come up and create their own solutions. The fact that there are no rules in art gives the children enough room for their imagination.

The Recycling Workshops are being held today at Al Bustan Centre from 6 to 10 pm.
