Forty sheep died after their owner fed them fodder from sacks previously used to pack fertiliser. Sheep merchant Bashir Ahmed yesterday said he had sold only 200 of the 300 sheep he had brought for the Eid Al Adha season. Ahmed said he lost a lot of money because of the accident. He did not know that the sacks he had used to pack the fodder had previously contained chemical fertilisers.
"I bought the fodder from a Dubai-based company. I noticed that the sheep were restless soon after they ate the fodder," Ahmed said. Sheep traders in the local market have also complained that some sheep have died in the market, but no one has removed them. The Municipality has refused to comment. A senior official said only that there have been several complaints by sheep traders.
