Fujairah Municipality has begun installing sun shades along the beach, at parks and the Corniche under a beautification programme. The first of 250 shades were set up near the Fujairah Hilton Hotel.
This follows the municipality signing of a contract with an international construction company to set up sun shades for families and tourists, so that they could eat out, picnic and enjoy the sea at the same time.
Rashid Hamdan Abdullah, Director of Fujairah Municipal-ity, said he expected more people to visit the emirate and more residents to venture outdoors to enjoy the sea and relax in the moderate weather conditions.
"Each of the shades is made of fibreglass and aluminium, to withstand humidity and other weather conditions. It will also feature ten benches fixed to the ground, a large dining table, a grill to barbecue food and a waste bin," said Abdullah.
A large signboard will be fixed atop every shade and will be used for advertising, the revenue from which will be used to support further beautification ventures, he added.
"Each shaded area will also have a shower room and toilet, and other fresh water connections for comfort," he said.
Abdullah said the beautification drive includes opening more parks for children and building fast food outlets.
"We still have many ideas which ought to help boost tourism in Fujairah," said Abdullah, who added that the municipality welcomed ideas and suggestions from the public.
