The International Computer Driving Licence programme recently held summer courses for UAE national students in collaboration with the Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum IT Education Project and UAE University.

The summer camp course provided training to 2,000 national school students in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain.

The summer camps were held at 19 public schools in Abu Dhabi and on the UAE's university campus in Al Ain.

This is the third consecutive year that the International Computer Driving Licence (ICDL) has held such camps.

They are designed to help students become proficient in information technology (IT).

"The course encourages students to assume more responsibility in their learning process and become self-confident to engage in classroom activities.

"Computers and the internet give students the opportunity of accessing a wealth of interactive courses and information online that can support classroom learning.

"ICDL has become the international standard for basic computer literacy in education. In the UAE it has been made mandatory for all teachers," said a senior university official.
