A comparatively strong field will assemble on the grid for the second round of the Rotax Max UAE Karting Championship to be held at the Emirates Karting Centre track in Jebel Ali tomorrow.

With 15 confirmed entrants, race director Matthew Norman was awaiting confirmation from two more UAE national drivers for tomorrrow's race.

"The number of racers in the field has more or less remained unchanged," said Norman.

The opening round held two weeks back, saw Christophe Hissette win the Light Weight class, while Andrew Childs weathered off some stiff competition to take the Heavy Weight class honours.

The Heavy Weight class field remains unchanged, while Anthony Usser and Philip Al Redha are the new entrants in the Light Weight class.

"We should have the final list of entrants by tomorrow, depending on whether the UAE nationals want to enter or not," Norman stated. "There's going to be no dearth of excitement at this round and we are expecting a fairly competitive day," Norman promised.

So far, there are eight racers in the Heavy Weight class and another seven in the Light Weight, in addition to the two new entrants.

Aaron Geishart and George Gaddu are the two contestants who will be skipping in the Light Weight class.

The championship is being organised under the patronage of Sheikh Saeed bin Maktoum Al Maktoum, the Honorary President of the Emirates Motor Sports Federation (EMSF).

The Rotax Max UAE Karting Challenge is a specific one-make racing series where all karts are equipped with Rotax FR125 engines and controlled tyres supplied by Bridgestone.

The Light Weight class is for lightly-built drivers who must weigh at least 160 kgs with their kart and racing gear. Heavier drivers will be classified into the Heavy Weight class with a minimum combined weight of 172 kgs.

The karting series is being hosted at the renovated Emirates Karting Centre near the Jebel Ali Beach Resort and Spa. Spectators are allowed to come and watch the races free of cost.
