Stones to die for

Diamonds dazzle at their 'biggest ever' exhibition in Dubai

They twinkle and sparkle, teasing and tempting visitors with their irresistible beauty. Rows and rows of brilliant diamonds in every possible shape, size, cut and colour and an exquisite collection of diamond jewellery was on display at the Al-Futtaim Jewellery showroom and the Lexus showroom at Deira City Centre. The diamond exhibition, was a part of 'A Sense of Style' extravaganza at Deira City Centre.
The largest diamond on show was a flawless, natural intense yellow 65.27 carat rock priced at Dhs 7.35 million. Apart from a large collection of loose Belgian diamonds in a variety of standard cuts, Al-Futtaim showcased some rare cuts that are available with only a handful of jewellers around the world.
Of these the J.C. Millennium cut was the most striking. This 16-sided brilliant cut with 88 facets has much more sparkle than regular cut stones that have only 58 facets. An added facet of the J.C. Millennium is the flower shaped form one sees when looking through the 'table' (the topmost part on the crown of the diamond). Developed by master cutter John Ceulemann, this cut is a patented process. Another new cut presented at the show was the 'Ice flower' cut, a 32-faceted brilliant designed to maximise sparkle with minimum light.
Also on sale were 26 pieces of De Beers' Millennium diamonds. These were limited edition diamonds, each of which were inscribed with a number up to 2000 and the name of one of the stars in the sky. Completely invisible to the naked eye, the inscription could be seen using a De Beers' viewer. Each of these diamonds came packed in an aluminum box and leather pouch with a certificate and card authenticating its edition name and number.
Exclusive, Italian designed, one of a kind, bridal sets, a collection of black diamond rings, the largest of which has a total diamond weight of 7.13 carats and the 'Signature' collection of diamond solitaire jewellery were some of the other attractions at the exhibition.
