The session is part of a broader push by the NHRI to spread a culture of human rights
Abu Dhabi: In a step toward strengthening human rights awareness, especially when it comes to protecting domestic workers, the National Human Rights Institution (NHRI) teamed up with the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) to hold a special awareness workshop in Sharjah.
The session, hosted at the Ministry’s headquarters, brought together staff from “Tadbeer” centres — facilities that help recruit and manage domestic workers in the UAE. The goal was clear: to help Tadbeer employees better understand their role in ensuring fair and respectful treatment for domestic workers.
Fatima Al Hosani, Head of the NHRI’s Awareness and Education Section, gave a presentation explaining what the Institution does and why its work matters. She was joined by Abdulazeez Al Obthani, who leads the International and Regional Organisations Section, and Maytha Al Shamsi, a Project Coordinator from the Strategic Communications Department.
Together, they walked attendees through the rights domestic workers are entitled to in the UAE and the important role employers and recruitment centres play in upholding those rights.
The workshop was more than just a lecture. It sparked active participation, open discussions, and plenty of questions from the audience. It also gave Tadbeer staff a chance to speak about the challenges they face, and to get direct feedback and guidance.
This session is part of a broader push by the NHRI to spread a culture of human rights across the country. More workshops like this are being rolled out nationwide to make sure those on the frontlines of domestic worker recruitment understand how to support a fair, dignified, and safe working environment for all.
