New facility provides efficient services for body preservation and repatriation
Sharjah: The Sharjah Police have inaugurated a new embalming centre, offering streamlined, respectful services for the deceased.
The Centre was officially opened in a ceremony led by Major General Abdullah Mubarak bin Amer, Commander-in-Chief of Sharjah Police, and attended by prominent dignitaries, consuls, and community leaders.
The event brought together key figures including Abdullah Ya’rouf Al Sabousi, Head of the Islamic Affairs Department; diplomats from Pakistan, the Philippines, and India; representatives from St. Michael’s Catholic Church, the Indian Association; and Edwin Maria from the Ruler’s Office. Senior police officials and health service executives were also in attendance, reflecting broad institutional support for the initiative.
Modern facility
This modern facility is part of the Sharjah Police’s ongoing commitment to enhancing public services and quality of life through globally recognised humanitarian and technical standards. It aims to improve efficiency in post-mortem services and provide comfort to families during a deeply emotional time.
Brigadier General Naji Al Hammadi, Director of the Forensics and Criminal Laboratories Department, said that the project was carried out under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, with support from Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah.
“This Centre was created with empathy and service in mind to ease the burden on grieving families and offer them a dignified and efficient process,” Brigadier Al Hammadi said. He noted that embalming services, which began in February 2024, are completed within three hours upon submission of the required documentation. A specialised team handles every step, from preparation to transportation, in accordance with international best practices.
New centre
The new Centre features a body preservation room, prayer areas, and a specially outfitted ambulance for transferring remains to the airport for repatriation. The facility ensures that every step, from embalming to transportation, is handled with the utmost respect, professionalism, and care.
During the ceremony, Major General bin Amer honoured consuls and key contributors to the project, recognising their collaboration in realising this vital humanitarian service. Attendees were also given a guided tour of the facility, with detailed briefings on operational protocols and its advanced service model.
