Self-service petrol pumps: Attendants unfazed

Despite the do-it-yourself pilot project under way at select Emirates National Oil Company (Enoc) petrol stations, attendants at other pumps remain unfazed about possibly losing their jobs if the trend catches on.

Ramesh (not his real name), who works at an Emarat petrol station on Al Wasl road, said, "I'm not scared because it is only being tested at a few stations. Even if it succeeds, it will take two to three years to implement. So, I am not afraid of losing my job."

Another attendant at an Eppco station was more realistic.

"First of all I think it will only be limited to Enoc and Adnoc stations which are run by the government. Secondly, I am young and energetic. If I lose this job I will go elsewhere and get another job. If I don't get it in Dubai, I will go back to my native Nepal. It's no big deal."

Tahir (not his real name), who works at an Eppco station, however, fears he may soon be looking for a new job if the DIY method becomes permanent.
