The car used by Hindi filmstar Salman Khan, whose rash driving led to the death of a man in Mumbai on September 28, originally belonged to Hassan Abdul Rahmansainar of Kasargode Thalankara Patel Road, a Gulf Malayali.

On a request from the Mumbai police, the Kasargode police inquired into the whereabouts of Hassan, in whose name the car was registered.

They found that he was now in a Gulf city and that he had brought the vehicle, a Toyota Land Cruiser, taking advantage of the transfer of residence concessions meant for non-resident Indians coming home for good.

The Kasargode Superintendent of Police, Jose George, has subsequently informed the Mumbai Police Commissioner that Hassan's residence at Thalankara was now being occupied by his wife only.

The car was brought to the country under the transfer of residence category that offers duty concessions and legally it could be sold only after five years.

It is suspected that some Mumbai businessman engaged in importing cars through Indians returning home on transfer of residence certificate sent the car through Hassan giving him some reward.
